Abstract

Background: Malaria is a serious and fatal infectious disease caused by parasitic protozoal genus plasmodium that transmitted among humans by infected female mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles bites. Screening test of malaria is very needed to predict the possibility of malaria sufferers to prevent them earlier. Methods: 54 respondents with clinical symptoms of fever that 25 were classified as malaria sufferer/ suspect malaria and 29 were classified as another infection/ non suspects malaria. There was a microscopic examination by taking finger blood of 54 respondents to find out the existence of malaria parasite. The test results entered into table 2x2 to test its validity by finding sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy. Result: prevalence of malaria was 7.4%, validity of suspected malaria diagnosis on fever patient had a sensitivity value 16%, specificity 100%, positive predictive value 100%, negative predictive value 58% and accuracy was 61.1%. Conclusion: the temporary has a very good specific but sensitifity has to be improved so that it needs investigation towards malaria to the sufferer. Keywords: Validity, suspected malaria diagnosis, fever patient
