Abstract
Frequently used blood transfusion types are Packed Red Cell (PRC) transfusions and Whole Blood (WB) transfusions. WB is useful in increasing the amount of erythrocyte and plasma simultaneously. After transfusion, 450 ml WB can increase the hemoglobin 0.9-0.12 g / dl and hematocrit 3-4%. One PRC unit can raise hemoglobin level 1 gr/dl and hematocrit level 3-5%. Complete blood transfusion just to deal with acute and massive bleeding, and to improve and maintain the freezing process. WB transfusion can be used as a substitute for PRC transfusion in the treatment of anemic patients. The research goal is to know the PRC and WB transfusion effect towards hemoglobin level. The research type is analytical with cross sectional approach. The research was conducted towards patients who receive WB and PRC transfusion. The statistic test result was concluded that there was significant effect on giving WB and PRC transfusion towards hemoglobin level (p < 0,05). The effect of WB transfusion towards hemoglobin level was 9.48% and the effect of PRC transfusion was 12.96%. Keywords: hemoglobin, PRC, WB
