Abstract
Urine microscopic examination is using morning urine because it is more concentrated with high specific gravity. The examination of leukocyte element provides information about the kidneys and urinary tract, and function of various organs in the human body. Leukocyte is easily found in concentrated urine. Leukocyte in the urine provide urinary tract infection (UTI) data from kidney to the urethra tip. Leukocyte in normal urine is rarely found, but in urinary tract infection may increase, because leukocyte will respond early if the body has an infection. Microorganism colonizing in the urine will cause an increased concentration solute in urine so urine is more concentrated and the specific gravity increases. Leukocyte which is derived from pink distal urinary tract with purple nucleus while those derived from large kidney and light blue coloured. The research goal is to know the relation of urine’s specific gravity towards leukocyte amount on urin sediment of suspect UTI. The research type is analytic with cross sectional approach. Specific gravity was measured using dye-dip, urine leukocytes were calculated microscopically by Sternheimer-Malbin painting. The urine’s specific gravity was 1.005 in 1 sample, 1.010 in 5 samples, 1.015 in 4 samples, 1,020 density on 6 samples, 1,025 specific gravity on 4 urine samples. The amount of urine leukocytes at least 5 cells/LPB, maximum was 21 cells/LPB, average was 10,75 cells/LPB, and standard intersection was 5,2503. Spearman statistical test obtained result p < 0,05 that is 0,000 with correlation value 0,863 it can be concluded that there was a very strong relation between specific gravity and amount of urine leukocytes. Keywords: specific gravity, urine leukocytes
