Abstract

Background: Children are prone to tuberculosis transmission. The highest level transmission and risk factor of tuberculosis is in children between 0-6 years old. TB in children may lead to the growth disorder. The increase of pulmonary TB cases are initiated by the risk factors such poor environment and malnutrition in children. The environmental factors may involve household density, flooring, ventilation, lighting, and humidity. Meanwhile, nutritional status is a significant factor for the occurrence of TB. Research objective: Finding out description of nutritional status and physical environment of the house among tuberculosis patients in pediatric clinic of Kendal Islamic Hospital. Research method: It was a descriptive research with cross sectional survey approach. The sample taken for this research was 37 respondents which was gained using total sampling technique. The univariate analysis was used as the method in analyzing the data. Research result: The children’s nutritional status was good in 25 respondents (67.5%) and poor in 12 respondents (32.5%). Most of the physical environment of the house met the requirement of health such wall (83.8%), flooring (83.8%), ventilation (86.5%), lighting (70.3%), and housohold density (89.3%). Meanwhile the other components didn’t meet the health requirement were humidiy (62.2%) and temperature (64.9%). Conclusion: the physical environment of the house which met the health requirements were wall, flooring, ventilation, lighting, and household density, meanwhile the humidity and temperature didn’t meet the health requirement. Suggestion: It is expected for the family to provide the balanced nutrition for the children and pay more attention to the house’s humidity and room’s temperature Keyword : Nutritional Status, Physical Environtment of the House, Pulmonary TB in Children.
