Abstract

Immunologic interactions that occur between pregnant women and fetal are suppressed, it was tolerated by the mother's immune system in order for the fetus to grow. The immune system suppressed in pregnancy can cause pregnant women to become susceptible to infection, therefore the antibiotics are needed to suppress infection rates. Production of leucocytes as an immune system will decrease along with decreased growth of microorganisms in puerperium. Purpose of research was to determine the differences between amount of leukocytes on prepartum and postpartum women. Type of research was analytical. The number of samples were 40 respondents of 100 pregnant women who’re hospitalized at Bina Kasih Ambarawa Hospital in October 2017. The EDTA venous blood specimen, calculated by using a hematology analyzer with unit cell per μl. Different test used dependent sample t test. The results showed that the percentage of prepartum women with leukocyte counts were <5,000 / μl 0% (0 respondents), 5,000-15,000 / μl 97.5% (39 respondents), and >15,000 / μl 2.5% (1 respondent) . Percentage of postpartum women with leukocyte counts were <5.000 / μl 0% (0 respondents), 5,000-15,000 / μl 30% (12 respondents), and >15.000 / μl 70% (28 respondents). Different test results obtained P value was 0,000 (P value <0.05), which means Ho was rejected. The results showed that there was a difference between amount of leukocytes of prepartum and postpartum women. Keyword : prepartum, postpartum, amount of leukocytes
