Abstract
Ultraviolet light (UV) is one of the rays with radiation power that can be lethal to microorganisms. The main mechanism of UV in inhibiting the growth of microorganisms is by damaging the ribosome causing transcription and translation process in the cell is disrupted resulting in mutation or cell death. Determination of the right dosage for ultraviolet rays differs much because of the variables that can affect one of the length of sterilization time. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of ultraviolet light on the inhibitory power of bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa. This research is an experimental research with the control of bacterial growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosadengan variations of long irradiation of ultra violet. The results showed that in 10 minutes of irradiation, the average number of colonies growing was 3000 colonies / ml, the duration of irradiation was 20 minutes with the average number of growing colonies was 910 colonies / ml, duration of irradiation 30 minutes with average the number of colonies that grow is 450 colonies / ml, the duration of irradiation 40 minutes with the average number of colonies that grow is 130 colonies / ml, irradiation time 50 and 60 minutes no growth of colonies of bacteria P. aeroginosa, while the control is not irradiated UV gets the result of colony growing is 13,750 colonies / ml. Key words: Ultraviolet light, Pseudomonas aeroginosa
