Abstract
Background: Diarrhea is the second fatal diseases for children under five years old at the value of 90%, and about 1.8 million people die from diarrhea in every year. In 2015, there were 300.000 cases (48.5%) in Central Java. As retrieved from July 2017 medical record of Kendal Islamic Hospital, diarrhea in children was the third of the top 10 disease lists with 108 cases. Objective: Finding out the behavior of mother whose children in first aid for diarrhea and the risk factor for diarrhea. Methodology: It was a descriptive quantitative research with case control study design. For the sampling, 47 respondents were taken as sample using consecutive sampling technique. The instruments used for the research was a questionnaire about demography data, risk factor for diarrhea, and the behavior of mother whose children in first aid for diarrhea. The data analysis used for this research was descriptive univariate analysis. Result: Most of the respondents were in the range of 26 – 30 years old with 27 respondents (57.4%), high school qualified with 38 respondents (80.9%), housewives or unemployed with 21 respondents (44.7%), parents’ behavior on the risk factor of diarrhea cases were mostly positive with 31 respondents (66.0%). Environmental condition which contributed to the diarrhea cases was in good criteria with 30 respondents (63.8%). Mother behavior during the first aid for diarrhea was in the good criteria with 28 respondents (59.6%). Suggestion: It is expected for the nurse to give medical education to improve mother’s knowledge in first aid of diarrhea in children.
