Abstract

Menstruation is periodic and cyclic blood supply of the uterus regularly every months, through several phases include the ischemic / premenstrual phases, so the pain became highest before the menstruation. The level of menstrual pain is considered as a discomfort felt by women during menstruation characterized by abdominal pain, back pain, lack of appetite to interfere with activity. Handled of non-pharmacological menstrual pain in the form of acupressure therapy became an alternative choice to overcome menstrual pain because it did not cause side effects. Know the effectiveness of acupressure to the level of menstrual pain in mahasantri. This type of quasi experimental research with one group pre-post test design. This research was conducted on July 2017 until January 2018 with the number of samples were 18 respondents. Sampling technique was non probality sampling with purposive sampling. Every respondent measured the level of pain before and after therapy to determine the effectiveness of acupressure therapy. The results showed that the level of menstrual pain after acupressure that had decreased by 1.444 points. P value (0.000) with significant level p <0,05 hence can be concluded that there effectivity acupressure at point xuehai (sp10) effective to level of menstrual pain (dysmneorrhea). The acupressure mechanism at the xuehai point (sp10) induces deqi reactions (numbness, weight, stiff) to stimulate the release of neurotransmitters to the sensory nerves and stalked cells and inhibits nerve impulsed to the pituitary hypothalamus that will enter the blood circulation and circulate throughout the body. Researcher’s suggest that students could apply acupressure therapy while experiencing menstrual pain as an alternative option to overcome the pain.
