Abstract

Cardiac surgery patient is a person frequently stay in Intensive Care Unit after undergoing cardiac surgery with ventilator installed to support respiratory system and bedside monitor to check any other vital sign.There are several factors that strongly influence anxiety in cardiac surgery patient, one of which is due to being separated from family members.Anxiety simply occurs in cardiac surgery patient both during pre-operative and post-operative care.This study aims at identifying the correlation between family & social support and anxiety in adult cardiac surgery patient in Intensive Care Unit of RSUP. Dr. Kariadi Semarang.This study employs non-experimental quantitative approach using correlative descriptive method.There are 30 respondents that are gained from Total Sampling method.Besides, questionnaire is applied to acknowledge about social and family support by using Visual Face Anxiety Scale.The result shows that 18 of 30 respondents possess higher social and family support (60%), while 13 respondents experienced low-level anxiety (43.3%).By applying Spearman Rank, ρ value = 0,016 (ρ < 0,05) with correlation coefficient 0,436.It indicates that there is any positive correlation between social & family support and anxiety in adult cardiac surgery patient in Intensive Care Unit of RSUP. Dr. Kariadi Semarang.It is also find that engage the family member in the post-operative care would be one of the efforts to support or increase patient’s life quality by controlling the anxiety.
