Abstract
Background: Treatment seeking behavior is part of health behavior, namely the actions taken by individuals in seeking treatment. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 75% of women of childbearing age aged 20-45 years have experienced pathological vaginal discharge at least 1-2 times in their lifetime, whereas in Indonesia 90% of women experience physiological vaginal discharge and 45% experience pathological vaginal discharge. The results of a preliminary study in RW II in Bangetayu Wetan Village, Genuk, Semarang found that 7 out of 10 women of childbearing age experienced pathological vaginal discharge, and they did not know how to prevent and treat it. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of women of childbearing age about pathological vaginal discharge with treatment seeking behavior. Method: Quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were 95 women of childbearing age who had experienced pathological vaginal discharge in the past year in RW II, Bangetayu Wetan Village, Genuk, Semarang, a sampling technique using simple random sampling. Independent variables include knowledge of pathological leucorrhoea and attitudes about pathological leucorrhoea and the dependent variable is treatment seeking behavior. Data analysis using Chi square statistical test. Results: women of childbearing age mostly had a low knowledge of 66.3% about pathological leucorrhoea, 53.7% had a negative attitude about pathological vaginal discharge, 27.4% bought herbal medicines in stores or stalls and 67.4% sought non-medical treatment place. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between knowledge of pathological leucorrhoea and treatment seeking behavior (p = 0.010) and there is a significant relationship between attitudes about pathological vaginal discharge with treatment seeking behavior (p = 0.042). Keywords: Knowledge, attitude and treatment seeking behavior.
