Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever is clinical manifestation of inflammation reaction due to infection from bacteria salmonella sp infected through fecal and oral that enter the body which mediated by contaminated food and drink. Research Purpose: to determine the risk factors with the incidence of typhoid fever in adult patients in RS Roemani Muhammadiyah Semarang. Method: The research used case control study using purposive sampling technique with 76 cases typhoid fever and 76 controls not typhoid fever. The instrument used a questionnaire. The statistic examination is assessed by multivariate regression logistic. Result: The majority of female respondents are adults, with senior high school education and work as private employees. The result shows that risk factors correlate to typhoid fever is history of infected by typhoid fever (p=0,000; OR = 14,145; 95% CI = 6,538 –34,126), eating habits outside the home (p = 0,007; OR = 4,188; 95% CI = 1,472 – 11,911), where as factors that do not correlate to typhoid fever are history of typhoid fever in family, hand washing habit after urinate/defecate, hand washing before eating habits, and the existence of flies around food. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research there was a relationship between history of typhoid fever and the habit of eating outside with incidents of typhoid fever. Both of these variables need to be the attention of the public to awid risk typhoid fever.
