Abstract
Background: Lung Vital Capacity (LVC) is the total amount of air exhaled after the optimal inhale. Tire repairer is one of the workers with potential LVC decrease because of the working process and the exposure to the working environment such as the accumulation of the exposure to waste gas emission. This research is aimed to find out the correlation between nutrition status, physical exercise habit, smoking habit, masker usage, lung disease history, and the working period. Methods: It was an analytical research with cross-sectional approach. The sample taken for this research was 28 tire repairers. The data analysis applied was univariate analysis, Fisher’s Exact Test, and multivariate logistic regression. The LVC was measured using spirometer method. Finding: There tire repairers with abnormal LVC was 60.7% and 39.3% with normal LVC. The normal nutrition status was 42.9%, regular exercise was 42.9%, the smoking habit was 78.6%, the absence of masker was 89.3%, lung disease history was 35.7, > 8 hours working duration was 57.1% and working period > 10 years was 39.3%. From the result of Fisher’s Exact Test, the variable related to LVC were nutrition status (pvalue = 0.019), exercise habit (p value = 0.001), smoking habit (p value = 0.022), lung disease history (p value = 0.041), working duration (p value = 0,019), working period (p value =0,016). On the other hand, the masker usage was not related to the LVC (p value = 0.543). The multivariate analysis using multivariate logistic regression gained that the working period (p value = 0.022) related to LVC. Conclusion: From the multivariate analysis, working period is the most related variable to LVC. Keywords: Lung Vital Capacity, tire repairer, spirometer, working period.
