Abstract

Background: Malaria is an infectious disease with a high mortality rate and it is still a global health challenge. Malaria cases are higher in endemic areas outside Java. In Indonesia, migrants from outside Java become malaria transmission. One of the migrant population groups is collenge students from outside Java. Purpose: To determine the relationship between the level of the origin region, family malaria history and treatment history of the incidence of Plasmodium sp infection among migrant residents from outside Java. Method: The type of this research is analytic observational using a cross-sectional design. The sample of this study was 100 migrant students of Muhammadiyah University of Semarang in 2017/2018 year class from outside Java. Results: the incidence of Plasmodium sp infection for migrant residents from outside Java, there were 27 people (27%) with the causative species as many as 23 people (85.2%) were infected with Plasmodium falciparum, as many as 4 people (14.8%) were infected with Plasmodium vivax. There was no correlation between the level of endemicity of the area of origin, history of family malaria and treatment of malaria with the incidence of Plasmodium sp infection among migrant students from outside Java, with a p-value = 1,000. Conclusion: the incidence of Plasmodium sp infection for migrant students need to be aware of all levels of endemicity. Plasmodium sp infection in migrant population without a history of malaria is a new case because it does not take precautions. Keywords: malaria, Plasmodium sp, migrants, outside Java
