Abstract

Background: Eye fatigue or asthenopia is an eye-opener due to long-term vision disturbances and an uncomfortable state of view. Lighting and long working become one cause of eye fatigue. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and factors associated with eyestrain in metal industry workers. Method: Cross Sectional research involves 60 workers selected by Purposive Sampling. Data collection of eyestrain, work period, duration of work and break time were collected through interviews using questionnaires and measurement of lighting intensity using Luxmeter tool, the use of glasses was done by observation. Description and statistical associations are worked with software. The results showed that 50-eyed fatigue (83.3%), lighting <300 Lux was 31 points (51.7%), working ≥ 8 hours 42 workers (70%), ≥ 5 years 32 workers (53.3 %), rest <60 minutes 32 workers (53.3%), did not use eyeglasses 32 workers (53.3%). Result of statistical test of eye fatigue with lighting p value 0,039, length of work p value 0,025, p value 0,03, break time p value 0,035, and use of glasses p value 0,491. Multivariate analysis resulted that the p value of 0,000 was associated with eye fatigue. Conclusion There is a relationship between eye fatigue with lighting, length of work, length of service and rest period. There is no relationship of eyestrain with the use of glasses. The multivariate variant most associated with eye fatigue is the length of service. Keywords: eye fatigue, duration of work, length of service, rest time, lighting, rest time
