Abstract
Background: Sexual violence is sexual behavior, harming the victim, which consists of rape and sexual harassment. According to PPT Seruni Semarang City, 2014 cases of child sexual violence in Semarang City are 39 cases, 13-18 years old there are 14 children, 2015 as many as 48 cases in 2016 as many as 33 cases. Purpose: To know the description of characteristics and role of social media about teenager sexual violence in Class XI of SMK “Y” Semarang. Methods: This study is descriptive research with cross-sectional approach. The number population is 213 of class XI of SMK “Y” Semarang with the samples are 68 respondents by using questionnaires. The sampling technique used is in the form of proportionate random sampling. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents parent incomes are ≤ IDR 2.310.087,50 as many as 40 respondents (58,82%), the majority of respondents parent education is elementary school as many as 31 respondents (45,59%), the majority of respondents are adolescents (17-20 years old) as many as 48 respondents (70,59%), the majority of respondents who often used social media Whatsappas many as 64 respondents (30,33%), the frequency of used per day majority of respondents in the high category as many as 38 respondents (55,88%), while the duration of access the majority of respondents in the high category as many as 26 respondents (38,24%).The majority of respondent's access to social media at home/boarding house counted 51 respondents (67,11%). The role of social media in teenager sexual violence in the medium category was 40 respondents (58,82%). Conclusions: The role of social media in sexual violence in the teenager is mostly in the medium category. Keywords: The Sexual Violence, The Role of Social Media, Teenager
