Abstract

Background: Infant Mortality Rate in Central Java Province in 2015 is still high at 10 per 1,000 live births. Decrease but not significant compared to IMR of 2014 that is 10,08 per 1,000 live births. The cause of infant mortality in Central Java in 2015 is respiratory disturbance 37%, Prematurity 34%, Sepsi 12%, Hypothermia 7%, Ikterik 6%, Post 3% maturity, Congenital Abnormalities 1% (Health Department, 2015). Based on these data, jaundice ranks among the fifths of infant mortality in Central Java. Central Java Province consists of 36 districts and IMR in Kudus, including at number 24, 9.75 per 1,000 live births ( Profile of Dinkes Prov.Jateng, 2015). Puskesmas Rendeng is one of 19 Public Health Centers in Kudus district, in 2017 the number of births as many as 482 infants with neonatus complications as many as 26 cases. The cases consisted of 12 cases of BBLR (46%), Asphyxia 8 cases (30.7%), congenial abnormalities 5 cases (19%) and jaundice 1 case (3.8%) (Annual Report Puskesmas Rendeng, 2017). From the above data jaundice ranks third of the number of cases.Jaundice is very common in newborns, especially in LBW (Low Birth Weight). There are so many causes of this yellow baby, which most often is due to immature baby's liver function to process erythrocytes (red blood cells). In infants aged red blood cells approximately 90 days. The result of the solution, erythrocytes must be processed by the baby's heart. At birth the baby's heart is not good enough to do his job. The rest of the erythrocyte cleavage is called bilirubin, this bilirubin which causes yellowing in infants (Depkes RI, 2007). It should be handled carefully, because bilirubin will enter the cells and damage the nerves so that the workings of the brain will be disrupted and result in disability throughout life or death (Depkes RI, 2007).
