Abstract
Postpartum blues is an emotional disorder experienced by the mother after giving birth to her first child which usually lasts for 14 days with a peak period on day 5. Holistic intervention can reduce the symptoms of postpartum blues which one of them is music therapy. Music therapy can reduce the symptoms of postpartum blues because music affects the limbic system in the brain which suppresses the funtion of the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal axis so that it inhibits the release of stress hormones. The purpose of this case study was to determine the decrease in symptoms of postpartum blues of music therapy. The design of this case study was descriptive study, with the pre and post test design approach. The samples of this case study was postpartum primiparous patients with sectio caesaria in the Roemani hospital Semarang. The samples consisted of 2 adult female respondents with a score of EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale) more than 10. Music therapy is given 3 days for 15 – 30 minutes. The results obtained in patients was it experienced a decrease in the average 2 score. These results indicate that music therapy is effective for reducing symptoms of postpartum blues. Music therapy can be used as an intervention to reduce the symptoms of postpartum blues. Keywords : postpartum blues, EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale), decreased symptoms of postpartum blues.
