Abstract
Intravenous therapy is a type of therapy that is widely given to children who experience hospitalization. Intravenous therapy can cause complications, one of which is phlebitis. Phlebitis can occur due to improper infusion procedures, intravenous administration of drugs, and bacterial accumulation in the catheter cannula. This condition can cause erythema, edema, pain, hard veins, elongated red veins, and presence of fluid. One action to treat phlebitis is Aloe vera compress which is useful because it has electrolytes in low concentrations and contains anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic enzymes. The application of Aloe vera compress was aimed to determine the effect of Aloe vera compresses in performing nursing care for children aged 1 month - 10 years who experienced phlebitis due to intravenous therapy. In the application of involving 2 pediatric patients, all patients were given pure Aloe vera compresses. The degree of phlebitis is measured using the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) phlebitis scale before and after the intervention. The results of the application of this case study found that the average degree of phlebitis before treatment amounted to degree 2 with a minimum maximum score of 1-5, after the treatment of compressing degrees of phlebitis in the first patient became degree 0 and in the second patient became degree 1. With this it can be concluded, Aloe vera effectively reduce the degree of phlebitis in children. Keywords: Aloe vera, phlebitis, pediatric patients, intravenous therapy
