Abstract
School-age children are middle age periods with a lifespan begin from 6-12 years. The procedure of infusion can cause pain in children, nursing interventions to reduce pain by means of non-pharmacological therapy by giving cold compresses using ice gel; thus it can be used for non-pharmacological therapy in reducing pain. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of cold compresses to reduce the pain of school-age children during the infusion. The design of the study was a descriptive study including biodata of the patient, pain assessment in 2 patients during the infusion.The subjects of the study were children aged 6-12 years; the gender was male, children had never experienced about hospitalization, amounting to 2 boys of school-age and measured using FLACC (Phase, Leg, Activity, Cry, Consobility Behavioral Scale). Based on the observations after being given complementary therapy using cold compresses therapy using FLACC (Phase, Leg, Activity, Cry, Consobility Behavioral Scale) obtained that the score was 3 score (mild pain category).It can be concluded that there is an effect of cold compress therapy on minimizing pain in school-age children during the infusion.
