Abstract
sleep disorders that often occur in the elderly are insomnia. Insomnia is the inability to sleep even though there is a willingness to sleep. Insomnia is a symptom, the attention that must be given is biological, emotional and medical factors that play a role. Based on this, the purpose of the case study is to provide back massage therapy for elderly who experience insomnia at the Pucang Gading Semarang Elderly Social Services Home. The method used in the descriptive case study with the subjects in this application were 3 elderly clients who experienced insomnia, with female sex over 60-74 years, client selection techniques using the KSPBJ-IRS method. The results of the application of this case study addressed the results of an average scoring of 21 categories of mild insomnia before the intervention of pungung massage. After the back massage intervention the results obtained an average score of 17 categories with no complaints of insomnia. Conclusion This case study shows that back massage in the elderly can reduce symptoms of insomnia. It was suggested to the institutions to continue the application and provide equipment that supports back massage to support nursing services in back massage.
