Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a type of degenerative disease that has increased every year in countries around the world. According to the International of Diabetic Ferderation (IDF, 2015) the global prevalence rate of DM patients in 2014 was 8.3% of the total population in the world and experienced an increase in 2014 to 387 million cases. Indonesia is the seventh country with DM patients with 8.5 million sufferers after China, India and the United States, Brazil, Russia, Mexico. Hyperglycemia or an increase in blood sugar levels, is an uncontrolled effect of diabetes and in a long time can serious damage occurs in some body systems, especially in the heart blood vessels (coronary heart disease), eyes (blindness can occur), kidney (kidney failure can occur), nerve (stroke can occur) (WHO, 2011). The way to prevent complications in patients with diabetes is to control blood sugar levels, regular blood sugar checks, hypoglycemia drug consumption, mild physical exercise and compliance with low-calorie diit (Arisman, 2011). Objective: to reduce blood sugar levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus. Method: The design used in the writing of this case study is a descriptive study. Result: there was a significant change between before and after the decoction of bitter melon fruit with the results of blood sugar levels Mr. K from 259 mg / dl to 179 mg / dl, Mr. M from 269 mg / dl to 189 mg / dl. Conclusion: bitter melon is proven to reduce blood sugar levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients. Keywords: Diabetes Melitus, Decreased Blood Sugar Levels, Pare Decoction
