Abstract

Hypertension is a systolic blood pressure higher than 140 mmHg or diastolic pressure higher than 90 mmHg. Hypertension causes serious threats if not handled properly. Management of non-pharmacological therapy in hypertensive patients is by breathing relaxation techniques in slow deep breathing. Slow deep breathing is conscious relaxation to regulate breathing deeply and slowly. Slow deep breathing which is done six times per minute for 15 minutes can give effect to blood pressure through increased baroreceptor sensitivity and reduce the activity of the sympathetic nervous system and increase the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system in primary hypertensive patients. This case study design is a descriptive study conducted by comparing the level of blood pressure reduction before slow deep breathing is done and after it is done. The results of systolic blood pressure dropped by ± 10-15 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure ± 10 mmHg. It can be concluded that the effect of slow deep breathing therapy on blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients. Keywords: blood pressure, hypertension, slow deep breathing.
