Abstract
Hypertension is a condition where blood pressure is more than 140/90 mmHg or more for ages 13-50 years and blood pressure is 160/95 mmHg for more than 50 years of age. In Indonesia every year there are 175,000 deaths due to hypertension and there are 450,000 cases of hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension in the city of Semarang as many as 28,378 patients and who occupied the highest level of hypertension is Kedung Mundu Health Center Semarang as many as 450 monthly patients aged 15-65 years. The purpose of this study is to apply the foot massage therapy to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients at the Kedung Mundu Health Center Semarang. The method of the study was descriptive study with the number of subjects are 3 primary hypertension patients, female with age 55-57 years old, subjects were given nursing intervention foot massage therapy for 3 days with a duration of 30 minutes each session. The results of the study showed that systolic blood pressure before application was 186 mmHg, diatolic 103 mmHg, MAP 131 mmHg. Whereas after application was 143 mmHg, diastolic 85 mmHg, MAP 104 mmHg. There were difference blood pressure with an average systolic 43.3 mmHg, diatolic 18.3 mmHg, MAP 26.6 mmHg. The recommendation of this study is foot massage therapy can be applied to hypertensive patients for management of blood pressure to prevent complications of hypertension.
