Abstract
Pengaruh Variasi Panjang Serat Nanas Terhadap Kekuatan Tarik dan Impact Komposit Polyester - Serat Nanas Dita Novi Susanti C2A215008 Program Studi S1 Teknik Mesin Fakultas Teknik Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang Email: ditanovisusanti@ymail.com ABSTRAK Perkembangan teknologi di bidang komposit khususnya komposit berpenguat serat alam semakin maju. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari mulai diproduksinya komposi berpenguat serat alam pada industri automotif sebagai contoh adalah PT. Toyota di Jepang memproduksi komponen panel dengan menggunakan komposit berpenguat serat kenaf. Serat nanas merupakan serat alam yang melimpah di Indonesia. Pemanfaatanya dalam dunia teknologi komposit masih perlu dikembangkan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi panjang serat nanas terhadap kekuatan tarik dan impact komposit polyester – serat nanas. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode eksperimen dengan melakukan pengujian tarik berdasarkan standar ASTM D 638 dan melakukan pengujian impact berdasarkan standar ISO 179-1:2010. Variabel bebas dalam penelitian ini adalah variasi panjang serat nanas yaitu 0.5cm, 1.0cm, 1.5cm dan 2.0cm. Pembuatan spesimen dilakukan dengan pencampuran resin polyester 157 BQTN-EX, serat nanas sebesar 2% dan katalis 1%. Serat nanas sebelumnya melalui proses perendaman NaOH 30% selama 2 jam dengan tujuan mengurangi kandungan lignin dan meningkatkan ketahan serat. Hasil penelitian menunjukan ada pengaruh pemberian variasi panjang serat nanas terhadap kekuatan tarik komposit polyester - serat nanas dimana kekuatan tarik tertinggi pada serat panjang 2 cm yaitu 25.17 N/mm2 dan ada pengaruh pemberian variasi panjang serat nanas terhadap kekuatan impact komposit polyester - serat nanas dimana kekuatan impact tertinggi pada serat panjang 0.5 cm yaitu 0.015 J/mm2. This can be seen from the start of the production of natural fiber reinforced compositions in the automotive industry as an example is PT. Toyota in Japan produces panel components using kenaf fiber reinforced composites. Pineapple fiber is an abundant natural fiber in Indonesia. Its use in the world of composite technology still needs to be developed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pineapple fiber length variation on tensile strength and polyester composite impact - pineapple fiber. The method used in this study is the experimental method by performing tensile testing based on ASTM D 638 standard and conducting impact testing based on ISO 179-1: 2010 standards. The independent variable in this study is the variation of pineapple fiber length that is 0.5cm, 1.0cm, 1.5cm and 2.0cm. The specimens were made by mixing 157 BQTN-EX polyester resin, 2% pineapple fiber and 1% catalyst. Previous pineapple fiber through a 30% NaOH soaking process for 2 hours with the aim of reducing lignin content and increasing fiber resistance. The results showed that there was an effect of the variation of pineapple fiber length on the tensile strength of polyester composites - pineapple fiber where the highest tensile strength was 2 cm long fiber, namely 25.17 N / mm2 and there was an effect of pineapple fiber length variation on polyester composite strength strength - pineapple fiber where the highest impact on fiber length 0.5 cm is 0.015 J / mm2.
