Abstract

ABSTRAK Penyakit infeksi merupakan masalah kesehatan yang lazim terjadi di negara yang sedang berkembang, salah satunya adalah negara Indonesia, penyakit infeksi disebabkan oleh bakteri Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) dan Staphylococcus aureus yang telah resisten terhadap antibiotik golongan ß-laktam. Sehingga diperlukan alternatif antibiotik yang relatif aman, salah satunya pelepah pisang raja kuning. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol pelepah pisang raja kuning (Musa x paradisiaca L.) terhadap pertumbuhan MRSA dan S.aureusATCC 6538. Ekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi etanol dan uji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi (zona hambat) dan dilusi (nilai MIC dan MBC). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol pelepah pisang raja kuning memiliki aktivitas terhadap MRSA dan S.aureus yang ditunjukkan dengan adanya zona hambat paling besar pada konsentrasi 100 %, yaitu 15 mm untuk MRSA dan 15,25 mm untuk S.aureus ATCC 6538 dan dengan nilai MIC ekstrak sebesar 12,5 % dan nilai MBC ekstrak sebesar 25%. ABSTRACT Infection disease is a general health problem in developing country such as Indonesia. Infection disease is caused by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) andStaphylococcus aureus which are resistant toward ß-lactam class of antibiotics. Thus, it needs a relatively safe alternative to antibiotics such as plantain’s midrib. The aim of this research was to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of plantain’s midrib (Musa x paradisiaca L.) on the growth of MRSA and S. aureus ATCC 6538. Extraction used ethanol maceration method and antibacterial activity test using the diffusion method (inhibition zone) and dilution (value of MIC and MBC). The result showed that plantain’s ethanol extract had activity toward MRSA and S.aureusshown that the biggest inhibition zone was at 100% concentration of 15 mm for MRSA and 15.25 mm of S.aureus ATCC 6538 and with MIC extract value of 12,5 % and MBC extract value of 25%.
