Abstract
The main method of identifying syphilis infection is laboratory diagnosis, one of which is the VDRL test. VDRL test flocculation method of reading time should be done immediately, but seeing conditions in the field rarely pay attention to reading time. The delayed reading time is often due to the large number of available laboratory examinations and flocculation observations to be precise, so that the reading time on the VDRL test is delayed beyond the recommended time. The objective of the study was to analyze the effect of variation of reading time on VDRL test of flocculation method immediately after rotation and at intervals of 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes. The kind of research is experiment. A total of 5 serum samples were obtained from patients reactive to VDRL at dr. Kariadi Semarang, then examined using ReDGed Diagnostics VDRL carbon antigen reagent with 5 treatments, so there are 25 times observation. The primary data obtained were then analyzed using the nonparametric Friedman test statistic. The results of observation immediately after rotated showed reactive 1, 5 minutes reactive 2, 10 minutes reactive 3, 15 minutes reactive 4 and 20 minutes ≥ reactive 4. Friedman nonparametric statistical test results show the significance value of Chi-Square with a significance level of 0.05 is 0.001 ≤ 0.05 then Ho rejected means there is influence of variation of reading time to result of VDRL inspection flocculation method. The longer the delay of reading time, the greater the flocculation is formed and will also affect the interpretation of VDRL test results. Keywords: Sexually Transmitted Infection, Treponema pallidum, VDRL.
