Abstract
Phlebotomy therapy is a polycythaemia treatment for many years and it is recommended. The phlebotomy indications include polycythemia vera’s polycythemia phase, physiologic secondary polycythemia only done if the hematocrit is more than 55%. The aim of phlebotomy which is done is to maintain hematocrit ≤ 45%, prevent the hyperviscosity occurrence and shear rate reduction. The aim of this research is to know the hemoglobin levels difference and hematocrit value of polycythem vera patients before and after phlebotomy therapy. The research type is analytical with cross sectional approach. The population of this research was all of the polycythemia vera patients on Kariadi Hospital Semarang. Sampling technique use the total sampling method, which is 21 samples. The blood specimens from the sample was examined the hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. The difference between two variables was done by Paired t Test. The research results explain the average of hemoglobin level before and after phlebotomy therapy was 20,33 gram%, and 19,50 gram%, with p value 0,039. The average of hematocrit levels before phlebotomy therapy was 61,61%, and after phlebotomy therapy 59,76%, with p value 0,135. It was concluded that before and after phlebotomy therapy on hemoglobin levels there was a significant difference, and at hematocrit level there was no significant difference. Keywords: hemoglobin levels, hematocrit, before and after phlebotomy
