Abstract
Breastfeeding is the optimal way in providing nutrition for infants. In practice there are several obstacles include lack of knowledge, Lack of lactation counseling services and support from health workers, socio-cultural factors, inadequate conditions for working mothers, and postpartum mothers' attitudes that may affect fluency during breastfeeding. This study was conducted to determine the relationship of knowledge and attitudes postpartum mothers with breastfeeding practices. This study design using descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique nonrandom sampling technique was purposive sampling, with sample amounted to 37 respondents in Puskesmas Petarukan on 20 February 2017 until March 18, 2017. The results showed that the knowledge and attitudes postpartum mothers was significantly associated with the practice breastfeeding in Puskesmas Petarukan (p value <0.05), with p value of 0.000 at variable knowledge and attitudinal variables. The test results obtained Pearson Product Moment Correlation count r value 0.728 to the variable knowledge, whereas the attitude variable count r value 0.735. This statistical test research results can be concluded that the higher the mother's knowledge and attitudes about the practice of good postpartum breastfeeding, the mother can practice breastfeeding well too. A sufficiently awareness-raising knowledge that gives rise to a determination of a good attitude to breastfeeding practice. Based on these results in Increased efforts are needed to optimize the knowledge of postpartum maternal role of nurses in providing information on breastfeeding practices and provide a boost in postpartum mothers raise awareness about the importance of breast-feeding practice is good and right.
