Abstract

Background : Obesity is a multifactoral disease caused by the excessive accumulation of fat tissues which can harm human”s health. It has become the problem for teenagers as it reduce the self-esteem and causes emotional problem especially for girls. Female teenagers with obesity are more susceptible to psychological disorder, such as stress. This study is aimed for finding the difference between the incidence of stress on male and female teenagers with obesity at SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari, Klaten. Method : This study is an analytical survey by cross sectional design. The instruments used were the respondents approval sheets, Body Mass Index (BMI) scale, life event quetionaires, behavior quetionaires type “A” and stress quetionaires. 75 samples were out of 960 population. The data was analyzed by chi-quare test. Result : The study resulted in p-value 0,001 which means that p<0,05, indicating the significant difference between the stress incidence on male and female teenagers with obesity at SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari, Klaten. Conclusion : The incidence of stress on male teenagers with obesity is lower than that on female at SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari, Klaten.
