Abstract

Background : Antibiotics are a group of compounds, whether natural or synthetic that have the effect of suppressing or stopping a biochemical process in an organism, especially in the process of infection by bacteria and until now it has become the most commonly prescribed drug. The high use of antibiotics that occur in Indonesia and other developed countries, raises the risk of resistance to antibiotics which ultimately has a detrimental impact both in terms of health and the economy of the community. Therefore we need a knowledge so that antibiotic treatment can be used rationally, which includes the right treatment, the right dose, the right time of use, and the right cost. Objective : This study was conducted to determine the description of the knowledge of the use of antibiotics in students of the Faculty of Dentistry professional study programs at the Dental and Mouth Hospital of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang. Method : This type of research is a descriptive study involving 74 students of the FKG UNIMUS professional study program taken with total sampling technique. The instrument of this study used a questionnaire that had passed the validity and reliability test. The questionnaire results that have been obtained are then processed by Univariate analysis using the data processing application program. Results : The results showed that the proportion of students of the FKG UNIMUS professional study program on antibiotics was 42 (56.7%) students who had knowledge in good categories about antibiotics. Conclusion : The proportion of students of the FKG UNIMUS professional study program on antibiotics in the good category was 42 (56.7%). This shows that further socialization and guidance on antibiotic science is still needed so that it is expected that FKIM UNIMUS will be able to produce qualified candidates for Dentists who understand rational use of antibiotics.
