Abstract

Background: Oral hygiene is influenced by the level of education, knowledge, awareness, economy, tradition and presence of dental and oral health facilities. The highest proportion of dental and mouth problems of productive age is 35-44 years (36.5%) and 45-54 years (38.6%) which can lead to decreased work productivity and quality of life. This study aims to describe the cleanliness of the oral cavity at the age of 45-49 years in the Pedurungan Kidul Village, Semarang City . Methods: Descriptive observational study with Cross Sectional approach using random sampling. A sample of 283 respondents were obtained based on the Slovin formula. Data collection techniques through OHI-S examination. Results: The results obtained respondents with a bad OHI-S index of 32 respondents (11.3%), moderate category as many as 76 respondents (26.9%) and good category as many as 175 respondents (61.8%). The hygiene status of the respondent's mouth is affected by the correct frequency and timing of brushing, the frequency of control to the dentist, how to clean the leftovers, the correct way to brush your teeth, the types of foods that can not easily damage the teeth and the condition of a good toothbrush.Conclusion: Description of oral hygiene status in people aged 45 - 49 years in Pedurungan Kidul Village is 61,8% good; 26.9% moderate; And 11.3% bad.
