Abstract

Background: Suspension is a dosage form containing solid medicinal ingredients in a fine and insoluble form, dispersed in a liquid carrier and is a heterogeneous system consisting of two phases. One of the ingredients for making drugs with suspension is alcohol. This condition raises public concern because the majority of Indonesians are Muslim and require consumer protection with halal guarantees. Purpose: to know the laws and Islamic views regarding the ingredients contained in the drug in the form of a suspension in the literature review. Methods: This study uses a systematic literature review approach which draws conclusions from the research article obtained from the database scientific direct, google scholar, and pub med. Result: The use of alcohol in medicine according to the Koran is the law of everything that is intoxicating with khamr, which is haram. According to the MUI fatwa, the use of alcohol / ethanol that does not come from the khamr industry (whether it is the result of chemical synthesis [from petrochemicals] or the product of the non-khamr fermentation industry) for liquid or non-liquid pharmaceuticals is permitted. Conclusion: the legal suspension of alcohol contained in drug preparations is permissible (mutable), because in terms of its use as a solvent in drugs, it remains within predetermined limits.
