Abstract
Background: Nanohybrid composite resin is a dental restoration material that has good aesthetic value. It has good translucency properties, resistant to fracture, self coloured with tooth, stain resistant and easy to polish and apply . Nanohybrid composite resin has weakness from physical properties, namely water absorption which helps in breaking down chemical bonds from polymerized materials because it absorbs drinks that have a low pH. Carbonated drinks are low-pH drinks that are currently favored by all people. Objective: This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of immersing carbonated drinks on the surface hardness of resin composite nanohybrid. Methods: The type and design of this research is a Literature Review. Search library sources using four electronic search engines, namely PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. There were 6 literature articles that matched the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study. Results: The results of the literature review show that carbonated drinks contain various acids as acidulant components including carbonic acid, citric acid, phosphoric acid, malic acid, ascorbic acid and tartaric acid. The acid has a critical pH and act as a chelator which causes the filler and matrix bonds to break down. This is what causes a decrease in the surface hardness of the nanohybrid composite resin. Conclusion: Carbonated drinks containing poly acids have an effect on decreasing the surface hardness of nanohybrid composite resin.
