Abstract

Background: Acrylic resin with heat cured is the most commonly used denture base material to make removable dentures. One of the properties of heat cured is surface roughness that must be considered, a rough denture surface will cause problems for the user, allowing the attachment of debris and bacterial plaque. Rough resin surfaces will increase plaque adhesion and facilitate the colonization of Candida albicans which is an etiologic factor of denture stomatitis compared to smooth surfaces. To overcome this, the method of cleaning removable dentures can be done by mechanical techniques (mechanical denture cleanser), chemically (chemical denture cleanser), naturally. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bay leaf juice as a denture cleanser acrylic resin plate heat cured in a literature review. Method: the design of this study was a literature review. Search sources using four electronic search engines, pubmed, Google scholar, ScienceDirect, EBSCO. 10 journals or articles were obtained that matched the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: results of the literature review found that the use of bay leaves and other plants containing tannins, flavonoids and essential oils was effective as a natural denture cleanser on the effect of roughness on heat cured acrylic resin plates Conclusion: Based on the results of the literature review that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the use of bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum L.) and other plants can be used as a natural denture cleanser or natural denture cleanser on heat cured acrylic resin plates where the roughness level on acrylic resin plates is still below the normal threshold value for the roughness level is 2µm.
