Abstract
Introduction: Aggressive periodontitis is an inflammation that affects young patients and causes progressive and relatively brief damage to the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. One of the bacteria that causes aggressive periodontitis is Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Extract of robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) has the potential to be effective in inhibiting the growth of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans because it contains caffeine, trigonelin and chlorogenic acid. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of robusta coffee extract (Coffea canephora) on the growth of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans through a literature review. Methods: This research is a literature review. The research design used in this study is a narrative review (non-systematic review). The data used in this study were secondary data that had been selected with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Based on a review of 15 articles, it shows that 100% robusta coffee bean extract has a larger inhibition zone diameter than 50% and 25% robusta coffee bean extract. 25% robusta coffee bean extract has a larger inhibition zone diameter than the positive control, so it can be said that robusta coffee bean extract is also potentially effective in inhibiting the growth of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Robusta coffee contains antibacterial substances including caffeine, chlorogenic acid, and trigonelin. Conclusions: Extract of robusta coffee which is effective in inhibiting the growth of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans.
