Abstract
Background: negative perception about pulmonary TB is spread around the society. Pediatric TB belonged to the top 5 diseases in the second three months, which reached 19.9% for the case of pediatric pulmonary TB in pediatric clinic of Kendal Islamic Hospital. One of the obstacles in pulmonary TB therapy was the wrong perception about pulmonary TB, especially about the susceptibility, severity level, treatment benefits, andtreatment obstacle. Research objectives: Finding out the representation of parents’ perception on pediatric pulmonary TB cases in pediatric clinic of RSI Kendal. Research methodology: it was a descriptive research with cross sectional survey approach. The sample taken for this research was 37 respondents by using total sampling technique. In term data analysis, univariate analysis was used as the data analysis method. Research result: Parents’ perception on pulmonary TB was mostly positive with 19 respondents (51.4%). Susceptibility perception was mostly positive with 20 respondents (54.1%). Severity perception was mostly positive with 20 respondents (54.1%). Treatment benefit perception was mostly positive with 25 respondents (67.6%). Treatment obstacle perception was mostly positive with 20 respondents (54.1%). Conclusion: Parents of pediatric pulmonary TB patients commonly had positive perception about susceptibility, severity level, treatment benefits, and overcoming treatment obstaclein pulmonary TB. Suggestion: it is expected that the medical service officer are able to give more information about pulmonary TB, especially about the susceptibility, severity level, treatment benefits, and how to overcome the obstacle in pulmonary TB treatment.
