Abstract

The side effects of chemotherapy and the threat of death in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy cause the patient to become stresed. One effort to cope with stres is family support. This form of family support has a major impact on client health. The purpose of this study to determine whether there is a relationship between family support with stres levels in colon cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy in Cendrawasih Room General Hospital Dr. Kariadi of Semarang. The research design used discriptive correlation, using cross sectional approach, correlate between family support variable with stres level variable. The sampling technique was purposive sampling based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, in 73 respondents. The process of this research has been conducted in Cendrawasih Room Dr. Kariadi Semarang from 1-28 January 2018. with. The results showed that poor family support was 56.2%, the patient's stres level in the normal category was 35.6%, and there was a relationship between family support and stres level in colon cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy with r = -0.27, r2 = 0,09, and p-value = 0,021. It is hoped the family find information about the disease and health of patients, discuss with patients about alternative ways to overcome the side effects of chemotherapy, and encourage patients to undergo chemotherapy.
