Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease is a condition in which the arteries that supply nutrient and oxygen for the heart is blocked. This blockage is mostly due to the buildup of cholesterol in the walls of coronary arteries. Coronary Heart Disease is the third most common disease at RSUP Dr. Kariadi, Semarang. In 2015, there were 613 patients visiting the polyclinic here. That figure increased to 715 patients in 2016, and in the first half of 2017 – from January to June – there were 528 patients. This research is aimed at figuring out the description of coronary heart disease patients’ knowledge on the danger and effect of cholesterol rich diet in Installation of Eagle RSUP Dr. Kariadi, Semarang. This is a descriptive-quantitative research that describes the knowledge of coronary heart disease patients on the danger and effect of cholesterol using the cross-sectional approach. This research involved 88 respondents of average age 57 years, of which 64.8% were male, 48.9% were of university education, and 26.1% worked in the public sector or as civil servants. Results show that 68.2% respondents were well aware of the food that contains cholesterol, and 68.2% respondents were also knowledgeable about the effect of cholesterol rich diet.
