Abstract

Urinary tract infection (UTI) can occur in both men and women of all ages, both in adolescents, adults and at an advanced age. One way to find out the occurrence of UTI disease was by microscopic examination by counting the number of leukocytes in the urine (leukosituria or pyuria) generally indicates the presence of urinary tract infection. The general purpose of this study was to determine the description of the number of leukocytes in urine sediment in patients with urinary tract infections at Karanganyar District Regional Public Hospital. The specific goal was to calculate the number of leukocytes in the urine sediment of patients with UTI based on gender, age and length of suffering. This type of research was descriptive by taking a sample of 50 urine sediments from 50 UTI patients who were carried out in the Karanganyar Regional Public Hospital Laboratory during the period of May until June 2018. Examination of urine sedimentary leukocyte counts in patients with UTI was carried out using microscopic examination. The results of the study revealed that the majority of UTI patients hospitalized at Karanganyar District Regional Public Hospital from June until May 2018 were majority female, aged elderly (46-65 years), and suffered for 1-7 days with leukosuria (+) which had a 5-20 leukocyte count/large field of view. Keyword : leukocytes number, urine sediment, urinary tract infections patients
