Abstract

Reticulocytes are young red blood cells that are not nucleated and originate from the normoblast maturation process in the bone marrow. The blood donor activity will affect the blood volume, it will cause the amount of reticulocytes to rise because the bone marrow produces new cells. Reticulocyte microscopic method by making dry preparations with the principle of supravital staining. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in reticulocyte counts before and after blood donation using paired sample t test. The results of this study were obtained that the average number of reticulocytes before the donor was 1.4% and the number after the donor was 2.2%, so that the P value: 0,000, which means p <0.05, which means Ho is rejected. The conclusion in this study that there were significant differences between the number of reticulocytes before and after blood donation. Keywords: Blood donation, reticulocytes before and after blood donation.
