Abstract
Laparotomy is one of the major surgical procedures by applying an incision to the lining of the abdominal wall to get an abdominal organ that has a problem. A total of 77% of post-surgical patients received inadequate pain treatment with 71% still experiencing pain after being given the drug and 80% describing still experiencing moderate to severe pain. Listening to music can produce endorphins that can inhibit the transmission of pain impulses in the central nervous system, so that the sensation of pain can be reduced. The purpose of this case study is to apply music therapy to reduce pain intensity in post laparotomy patients. The writing method used descriptive study with a number of subjects as many as 2 women laparotomy patients aged 40 and 44 years old, subjects were given music therapy for 15 minutes each session. Before the patient is given music therapy, the pain scale in patients was 5 (moderate pain) and 6 (moderate pain). After 3 days given music therapy, the average pain was reduced to scale 3 (mild pain) and scale 2 (mild pain). The author recomends combining both management between pharmacological therapies. One useful non-pharmacological therapy is music therapy. At the time of music therapy, you should use earphones so that there is no sound interaction from other patients pr visitors, and provide a special room when doing therapy so patients can more consentrate. Keywords: laparotomy, music therapy, pain
