Abstract

Based on data from Dr. RSD Amino Gondohutomo Psychiatric Hospital, Central Java Province, in 2013, the number of patients with violent behavior experienced an increase reaching 351 patients in November, while in December were 356 patients 371 patients in January in 2014. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of pillow-hitting technique on reducing emotional status in patients at risk of violent behavior. The design of this study is a case study using pre- and post- studies on clients suffering the risk of violent behavior. This study uses 2 clients in Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Psychiatric Hospital, Central Java Province. After applying the pillow-hitting technique to both patients, Mr. A, and Mr. B, it can be said that both patients can control their anger proven by the decreasing points of violent behavior symptom. Mr. A and Mr. B have 14 and 13 initial points of violent behavior respectively. Those points decrease significantly becoming 11 and 10 for Mr. A and Mr. B respectively. This study proves that not only pharmacological treatment but the pillow-hitting technique can also be applied to reduce anger on the patients who potentially perform the violent behavior.
