Abstract

Anxiety is a concern in something that occurs with unclear causes and is associated with erratic feelings that can occur in patients preoperatively. One nursing intervention to reduce anxiety is five-finger hypnosis therapy. This case study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of five-finger hypnosis therapy in reducing the anxiety level of patients pre laparotomy surgery. This case study uses a descriptive study. The case study subjects were 2 patients with pre-laparotomy surgery, obtained by non-random sampling. Subjects measured anxiety using Visual Analog Scale for Anxiety (VAS-A). The results of the case study revealed that after five-finger hypnosis therapy the subject's anxiety level decreased with an average of 11.25 scores. The mechanism supports the work of nerves delivered by the brain or thalamus and unconsciously the memory will store information then the nerves that produce dopamine, norepinephrine, acetylcholine, glutamate, gamma aminobutyrid acid change information that causes anxiety into other information that can distract attention about the operation that will lived. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of five-finger hypnosis therapy to reduce the anxiety level of patients pre laparotomy surgery. Keywords : Anxiety, Preoperative, Five finger hypnosis.
