Abstract

Introduction: Porphyromonas gingivalis is the most common caused of chronic periodontitis. This disease is often occurred in Indonesian society.Unapropriate using of antibiotic induce antibiotic resistance. Kaemferia galangga is the one of herb that contains of flavonoid, essential oil, and saponin which potentially to be antibacterial. Purpose: The aim of this research is to prove the antibacterial effect of Kaemferia galangga in bacteri Porphyromonas gingivalis growth. Method: This study was experimental laboratory using post test only control group design. The antibacterial effect was observed at MHA media inoculated with standart Mc Farland bacteri Porphyromonas gingivalis and given Kaemferia galangga in several concentration 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Bacterial growth inhibition was measured the diameter of transparent zone to intepretated the antibacterial effect. Result: The mean of bacterial growth inhibition among the diferent consentration 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% was 0.6772 mm, 0.7600 mm, 0.8488 mm, 1.3174 mm. The diameter of bacterial growth inhibition was analized by one way anova test (p<0,05). The difference of bacterial growth inhibition between extract concentration 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% between control were p=0,00 (p<0,05). Conclusion: Kaemferia galangga has antibacterial activity inhibition Porphyromonas gingivalis growth with the effective concentration in 100%.
