Abstract
Introduction: Maloucclusion is a relationship between the maxillary and mandibullary that deviates from the standard form of normal occlusion. Thumb-sucking and mouth-breathing are etiological factors that are cause of malocclusion and have a fairly high prevalence compared to other habits. Thumb-sucking and mouthbreathing have some clinical features in common, so operators/dentists often have difficulty identifying the cause of malocclusion. If these bad habits cannot be corrected properly, can lead to relapse after orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this literature review is to find out the comparison of malocclusion from thumbsucking and mouth-breathing habits. Method: This study uses a Systematic Literature Review by collecting various literature studies from the PubMed, ScienceDirect, dan Google Scholar, database which obtained 14 article. Result : The results of the picture of malocclusion caused by thumb sucking habit are deep bite, high and narrow palatal arch and V-shaped, class II division 1 malocclusion, class I malocclusion type 2, open bite, central diastema, and protrusion of the maxillary anterior teeth. While the malocclusion mouth breathing habit is a high and narrow palatal arch and V-shaped, open bite, long face shape, narrow nostrils, gummy smile, class II malocclusion, class III malocc lusion, anterior and posterior crossbite, increased overjet, reduced inter-molar width, low tongue posture, deep bite, maxillary anterior teeth protrusion, hypotonia of the upper lip, hypertrophy of the lower lip, bimaxillary protrusion, normal overjet, cl ass I malocclusion, and mandible retrusion. Conclusion : Based on the literature review research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the features of the malocclusion of thumb sucking and mouth breathing have similar features of open bites, high and V-shaped palatal arches, class I and II malocclusions, and deep bites. (deep bites). However, the thumb sucking habit shows a central diastema and protrusion of the maxillary anterior teeth which are not found in the mouth breathing habit, while the mouth breathing habit shows a bimaxillary protrusion, normal overjet, convex soft tissue, mandibular retrusion, malocclusion. class III, crossbite, narrowed nostrils, gummy smile, lower tongue posture, elongated face shape, reduced inter-molar width, lower lip hypertrophy which is not present in thumb sucking habits
