Abstract

Introduction: The workload of nurses in the hospital covers the workload of physical and mental work, which consists of working with shifts, the complexity of work, working with special skills in caring for patients, responsibility for healing and having to communicate with patients. Purpose: To know the nurse's perception about work load on work stress of nurses at Permata Medika Hospital of Semarang. Method: The design of this study is descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The respondents of this study were nurses at the inpatient room at Permata Medika Hospital of Semarang which amounted to 62 people. The sampling technique used in this study is total sampling. Result: Most of respondents perceive a heavy workload of 45.2%, work stress felt by respondents mostly high as much as 58.1%. The result of statistical test there was a significant relationship between work load and nurse work stress at Permata Medika Hospital of Semarang with p value 0.000. Conclusion: The hospital can take into account the workload borne by employees in each division, especially nursing, so as it does not give the excessive workload that leads to work stress and ultimately affect its performance.
