Abstract

Spinach thorn is one of the plants serves as a drug because it has flavonoid and tannin compounds that act as antibacterial. S.aureus and S.epidermidis are the bacteria that cause infectious respiratory diseases and skin infections. The objective of this research is to know the inhibitory power of ethanol extract of spinach leaves on growth of S.aureus and S.epidermidis. The experiment was conducted experimentally, using samples of spinach leaves of spines, S.aureus and S.epeidermidis bacteria. Stages of research begins with rejuvenation of bacteria, making spinach leaf extract with maseration method using ethanol solvent 96%. The method used in bacterial testing is the diffusion method of wells. The results of ethanol extract test of spinach leaves of spinach leaves on S.aureus and S.epidermidis with four variations of concentration 10% , 20% , 30% and 40% can not inhibit the growth of bacteria S. aureus and S.epidermidis. Keywords: Spinach thorn, S.aureus and S.epidermidis
