Abstract

Children who have mental retardation desperately need special support from the family, because the support will affect the attitude and behavior of children. Family support is very important because it is the family who has the longest interaction with the patient. In the family problems can arise and in the family also problems can be found alternatives. The aim of this research is to know the description and to describe family support to children of mental retardation at SLB Negeri Semarang. The population was all family members of children with mental retrenchment in SLB Negri Semarang, the number of poppulation were 304 people and the number of sample were 70 people with mental reterdation. This studi using cross sectional approach. Data were taken on 70 respondents from family members of children with mental retrenchment. Data collection using questionnaires and data analysis using quantitative descriptive that shows the description of family support for children with mental reterdation in SLB Negeri Semarang. Based on the result, it is expected that family members who have children with mental retellation to pay attention to the pattern of care and support of children with mental reterdasi so that children with mental reterdasi can interact well so that the attitude and behavior of children can be better.
