Abstract
Based on data obtained from Dr. Amino Gondhohutomo, Semarang, in 2015, there were 90% of clients treated in the psychiatric ward were diagnosed with schizophrenia. There were also 55% clients being treated due to the performance of the violent behavior. From January to December 2015, there were 2,956 clients diagnosed with violent behavior. The study aims to examine the attempt to reduce risks of violent behavior by using a verbal assertive treatment. The verbal assertive treatment is performed for reducing and controlling the anger which comes along the violent behavior of the psychiatric hospital’s clients. Pre- and post- studies of the evidence-based nursing method are administered to find out if the anger is decreasing between before and after the treatments applied. The sample of this study uses 2 samples in Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Psychiatric Hospital, Central Java Province. The two clients, Mr. A, and Mr. B, who receive verbal assertive treatment experience decreasing a symptom of violent behavior. Mr. A and Mr. B have 14 and 13 points respectively for the initial indicator points of violent behavior. Those points decrease significantly after being treated using verbal assertive treatment namely 6 and 7 points respectively. The result of this study proves that not only pharmacological treatment should be employed to reduce the violent behavior, but non-pharmacological management should also be administered to decrease the clients’ emotion without the medical drug application.
