Abstract

One of the diseases caused by the effect of lifestyle is hypertension. Hypertension or high blood pressure can be defined as a systolic blood pressure greater than 140 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure greater than 90 mmHg. The bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) is a tree that produces spice leaves widely used in Indonesian cuisine. The bay leaf contains three components that are essential oils, tannins, and flavonoids. This study aims to evaluate the giving of a bay leaf decoction to the hypertensive patients. The writer uses a subject of two respondents in Tlogosari Kulon Village, Semarang, who had hypertension and were given a treatment for 14 days. The data collection method uses interview techniques and physical examination. The descriptive analysis method is used by describing and comparing the condition before and after of giving the bay leaves with a measuring instrument namely the observation sheet. After giving the bay leaves for 14 days, this study obtained a result that is a change in blood pressure decrease. The conclusion of this study is the decrease in blood pressure by giving the bay leaves. Keywords: Hypertension, Bay Leaf
